Macedonia is certainly a country undergoing a healing process – of that there are not two ways about it. But this process is well underway and the country is far more stable both politically and economically than it has been in a while. The country is a beautiful one and the people are warm and friendly towards foreign visitors. Property is cheaper than a lot of other countries in the region and the cost of living is very low compared to Western standards, meaning the chance to live a higher standard of life is present for most. Property in Skopje is far and away both the most popular and priciest, but as mentioned by Western standards these prices are still surprisingly low. As one Macedonian property website puts it: “You can buy your home for the cost of the deposit on an English property” (paraphrased). Elsewhere in the country property reaches very low prices, with some absolute steals lurking in the smaller towns. Macedonia has submitted an application to accede to the EU and is currently being held as a candidate country, meaning around the year 2008 the country could become a part of the Union, which would clearly help the economic situation even more. Things are stable, the economy is growing, costs are low and there is endless potential in Macedonia – it is a country that certainly shouldn’t be overlooked.
